Workshops

1. Future directions in the analysis of potential field data: inversion, signal processing, interpretation

The Artificial Intelligence expert group is organizing a preconference workshop on Future directions in the analysis of potential field data:
inversion, signal processing, interpretation
at the University of Western Australia on August 18, 2001.

The workshop will be free to people registered for the Chapman meeting; a fee will be charged for those who choose to attend only the workshop.

During the workshop a number of discussion points will be addressed which are of direct relevance to the Exploration Geodynamics field. For example we plan to discuss the theoretical basis for merging potential field inversion and mechanical forward modeling. The focus of the workshop will be on data which lend themselves to crustal scale interpretation. Application to the global / plate scale, and interpretion in terms of dynamic processes will be the subject of a session at the main conference.

2. Archean Geology, Mineralisation and Modeling

Organizers: Roberto Weinberg and Peter Sorjonen-Ward
Wednesday 17.00 until dinner in Annie or Marybrook Room (poster rooms adjoining the main conference room).

This working group will discuss the linking of Archean geology/mineralisation with numerical modeling, in the spirit of the Exploration Geodynamics conference. What do we need to know about Archean environments and their bearing on mineralisation, and how can numerical models help us? Discussion will be lead by a panel of experts in Archean geology and in numerical modeling, and is open to all participants. The aims are to improve communication between geologists and modelers in relation to Archean issues; trigger ongoing discussion; and encourage collaboration between participants. A synthesis of the discussion will be presented to the main conference on Friday.

Summary of the workshop discussions.
