Project Summary
It is well known that mantle convection can have a profound influence on basin evolution, but progress has been slow in quantifying this relationship or making these concepts applicable to exploration. The development of Gplates and the establishment of a workflow to link GPlates with the mantle convection modelling software CitcomS allows us to link plate motions, lithospheric stretching, mantle convection and the history of sedimentation systematically for basin-scale applications. These emerging technologies will be applied to the evolution of basins around South America. Participants
