New open-source tutorial suite links GPlately with PyGMT

EarthByte has released version 1.0 of an open-source tutorial suite, “Extending PyGMT into Deep Time via GPlately“, which combines GPlately’s plate-tectonic reconstructions with PyGMT’s publication-quality cartography.

The AuScope-supported suite includes 80 Jupyter notebooks organised into 11 thematic learning clusters, with workflows ranging from a first paleogeographic map for undergraduates to research-grade applications. Topics covered include plate kinematics, mantle dynamics and dynamic topography, paleomagnetism, paleogeography, thermochronology, paleobiogeography, paleoclimate, and reconstruction-driven exploration for Earth resources.

Every notebook includes fully executed outputs so figures are immediately visible on GitHub with nothing to install, clear learning objectives and references, and an “Extend this” section highlighting where each workflow can go next.

The suite was developed by the EarthByte Group at the University of Sydney in collaboration with a broad community of co-authors and contributors across Australia, Germany, the UK, China, the US, Switzerland, and beyond.
